- For preventative care, apply leather cream, wax or grease to restore the original appearance, this gives the shoe a shiny look and soft feel. A pair of leather shoes should also be impregnated. For everyday care, make sure that the shoes are dry before you remove dust or dirt with a brush. For tougher spots, Cleanse the leather by wiping the area with a cloth dipped in soap and water.
